Jazz for Children

JazzDanmark has joined forces with BørneJazzKlubben (The Children's Jazz Club) in a project that aims to secure the very youngest audience groups access to quality jazz over the entire country. Our common mission is to open all of Denmarks ears to children's jazz-concerts with skilled musicians, and plant the seeds for future cooperation and interest. This project was launched in 2010 on the island of Bornholm, where a large amount of concerts were held for both children and their parents. In 2011 the project is expanded from Bornholm to also cover the cities Aarhus and Ebeltoft with children's jazz-arrangements from July 10th to 14th. In 2012 we plan to visit more cities, and spread the word about jazz for kids.

Through the kids' early meeting with live music, a seed is planted for life-long joy of listening to music, leading to many more music-lovers or even talent. Facilitating this meeting in a playful setting gives the children a close connection to the music and the instruments, providing them with the courage to try and sing or play themselves - or "just" a deeper understanding of the power of music.

The Children's Jazz Club has done this in the Copenhagen area throughout the past seven years, but JazzDanmark feels it is time to broaden out the effort to the rest of the country. In time we hope to be able to offer even more quality music to an even larger group of children throughout the entire country.
