Whether it's dusty jazz in Copenhagen, dixie jazz on Gudenåen in Aalborg or electro jazz at the Harbour in Køge there is not much doubt: Denmark is a Mecca for jazz festivals!
We love the combination of good live music, fun and cold beer, and for most festivals this is the recipe for a good night. But where and when are the different festivals? And what kind of music do they offer?

Sæby Jazz Festival May 24th-27th
For the third consecutive year there's a jazz festival in Sæby. From May 24. to the 27. there's music no matter where you are in town. There is also free admission to all concerts during the jazz festival. Featured bands: Skylark, Kenneth Knudsen Septet, Flux, Sæby Big Band feat Lisa Hansen
Køge: Modern Jazz Days, June 8th-10th
40 bands and soloists from June 8th-10th: concerts, jam sessions, workshops and masterclasses. There are four stages and a camping site just around the corner. A festival that celebrates the diversity of the genre. Featured Artists: Kira Skov, Emil De Waal & Spejderrobot, Im beruf, Gerard Presencer w. Jesper Løvdal Quintet.
Roskilde Jazz Days, June 15th-17th
Roskilde can also be jazzy and this festival is now in its ninth season. The festival takes place down at Roskilde harbor in a large tent. Featured Artists Copenhagen Trip Trio (gypsy jazz), Santa Cruz, Mike Andersen Blues Band, Organic 3 w. Benjamin Koppel
Odense Summer Jazz, 25 June-1 July
Summer Jazz in Odense is not a new invention. The first full festival was held in 1983. The festival was then called City Jazz on Fyn. Today it has existed in various forms for almost 30 years. Silkeborg: Riverboat Jazz Festival, 27 June-1 July
Riverboat Jazz Festival is the oldest jazz festival in Denmark and has many proud traditions. The festival is known for traditional jazz around Silkeborg town and as the name suggests, also at sea. Featured Artists: Bourbon Street Jazz Band, Jazz Five, Mads Mathias & The Souljaz 'feat Ayoe Angelica
Copenhagen Jazz Festival, 6th July-15 July
Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2011 featuring over 1000 concerts throughout Copenhagen with everything from small local acts in small venues to major international stars. Featured Artists: John Scofield, Wayne Shorter Quartet, Tony Allen, Brad Mehldau Trio, and many more.
Valby Summer Jazz, 6 July-15 July
Benjamin Koppels Festival takes place primarily in Valby, but this year his also expanding the festival with concerts at the Betty Nansen Theater in Copenhagen. The program is a mix of some of jazz´ greatest lengends and exciting new names. Featured Artists: Jim Hall, Lee Konitz, Randy Brecker, Miroslav Vitous, Brian Blade And The Fellowship Band and many more.
Fredericia. 6th July jazz and blues festival, 5th-9th July
Fredericia jazz club is the organizer, has a 26 year history with this festival which consists mainly of names from the traditional jazz scene. Featured Artists:

Allinge, Allinge Jazz Festival, 9 to 15 July
The small island of Bornholm offers a festival in Allinge with cozy tradional jazz at a variety of outdoor events for both the island's residents and its many summer visitors. The main stage is down at the harbor in Allinge with a fine view over the sea. Allinge Jazz Festival also has a tradition of inviting traditional jazz bands from across Europe to the sunny island. Aarhus Jazz Festival, 14 to 17 July
Denmarks 2nd biggest city Aarhus also have a jazz festival with both international and local artists. You can experience both free events and concerts with admissions. Featured Artists: John Scofield Hollow Body Band, Han Bennink Trio, Pierre Dørges New Jungle Orchestra, Eggs Laid By Tigers
Maribo Jazz Festival, 14 to 17 July
This festival has 25th Anniversary this year and there will be musical entertainment for both adults and children. The main focus is on traditional jazz, but theres also room for both experiments and surprises. Featured Artists:Chris Tanner, Veronica Mortensen, Erika Lewis, Marilyn Keller
Ærø Jazz Festival, 29th July-4.august
For over 30 years this festival has been carried through by local enthusiasts, a large corps of volunteers and benevolent funds and sponsors. Featured Artists: Poul Dissing, Mikkel Ploug Group, Hugo Rasmussen All Starz, MC Einar and Kuntakt
Femø Jazz Festival 31 July-5 August
Normally 144 people live there, but the island's population increases by a few thousand people when this traditional festival begins. Since last year the festival has experienced problems with both finance and personnel, but they have managed to come back with a program covering both jazz and blues. Ollerup, Sydfyns Jazz Festival July 30-4.august
Combined festival and musical summit, with Jens Christian "Chappe", Olivier Antunes and Bo Stief. Musicians can sign up for training in various disciplines of music, and the audience can enjoy the results of the various sessions, and experience the headliners playing modern jazz. Featured Artists: Olivier Antunes, Marilyn Mazur, Bo Stief, Bobo Moreno and Ole Koch Hansen, Søren Huss, Palle Hjort and others.
Ribe Jazz Festival
Program and dates have not yet been announced for the festival.
Livø Jazz Festival, 10.-12. august
The small island in the Limfjord has a festival that has a focus on traditional jazz, but this year they´re expanded with modern jazz, as well as Irish folk music and 60s rock. Featured Artists: Henning Munk & Plumperne, Bras Flavour, Limfjord Sons
Aalborg, the Blue Festival 22nd-26th August
The Blue Festival is one of the largest genre festivals which specialized in blues. There are two large outdoor stages for the festival's main program, and there are also concerts at many of the city's cafes, bars and music venues.
Slangerup, Snake City Jazz Festival 23 to 26 August
The whole city of Slangerup is committed to this music event, and both streets and tents are alive with musical activity in the four days the festival runs. There is music for everyone. Bogø Jazz Festival, 24 to 26 august
The small island in the Great Stream between Zealand and Falster also has its own festival, where you can experience swing jazz, cool jazz and children's jazz. Featured Artists: Daimi & Louisiana Jazz Band, ABQ, Cool Sweetness, drum troll, Sophisticated Ladies
Copenhagen Harbour Jazz, 14. - 16. September
A traditional event that shows that traditional jazz is still alive and energetic. They also run throughout the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, where they play traditional jazz every night at the memorial anchor in Nyhavn. Bindslev, Tversted Jazzy Days: Mid-October
North Jutland's biggest jazz festival is also a place where you focus on creating good musical environment for live jazz. The program is broad, with both funk, fusion and bebop.
