Applications for Jazzdalen 2023 are now open
It is once again time to sign up for the Jazzdalen. A week-long music event for young people under the age of 18.
For the seventh year in a row, Jazzdalen is ready to welcome young musicians under the age of 18 to Klejtrup Musikefterskole. The week-long event, taking place from July 23rd to 29th, focuses on building new connections and enhancing participants’ musical skills.
Since 2017, Klejtrup Musikefterskole, located near Hobro, has hosted the annual music gathering. Here, a team of instructors from Denmark’s vibrant jazz scene guides their respective groups toward a final concert on the event’s last evening. In addition to rehearsals within their ensemble groups, participants can look forward to a range of exciting activities, including jam sessions, instructor concerts, lectures by the instructors, workshops in instrument groups, and plenty of fun and relaxation.
New Friendships and Skills
Jazzdalen is not just about improving individual instrumental skills. It’s also about exploring the traditions of jazz, delving into improvisation, and, most importantly, forming new friendships across age, gender, and social backgrounds. The event is designed to provide both an immersive learning experience and a vibrant social environment where participants can connect and grow together.
Young people who play or take an interest in jazz can be few and far between, so bringing them together from all corners of Denmark creates a unique group of like-minded individuals who share the same interest and passion. In this environment, jazz can flourish – not just in Jazzdalen but especially within the participants themselves. This experience inspires and fosters an important awareness that, everywhere you go, there are people with whom you share something special.

It was by far the best week of my summer vacation. A week with the most talented and kind young people, along with a lot of inspiring instructors. I was placed in an amazing band and had a fantastic time throughout the week, which included evening jams, relaxation time, various workshops, rehearsals with the band, and great food. I highly recommend it, and I’ll definitely be back next year.

Jazzdalen will take place from July 23rd to 29th, 2023. Registrations are open now and will be accepted until April 30th, 2023.
- Price: 1,900 DKK per participant, including meals and accommodation.
When: July 23rd – 29th, 2023 - Arrival at Klejtrup Music Boarding School on Sunday, July 23rd at 3:00 PM. Departure from Klejtrup Music Boarding School on Saturday, July 29th at 11:00 AM.

Practical information
- Accommodation: Participants will stay in rooms with 2-4 people at the school. Please bring your own bed linen, pillow, and sleeping bag or duvet.
- Food: The school’s kitchen staff will provide good, healthy, and delicious meals, along with snacks. If you want soda, candy, or similar, please bring pocket money. The nearest store is within walking distance from the school.
