Be a part of this year’s Summer Session 2022

Application for this year’s Summer Session is now open. The event itself takes place from 7 to 13 August at Krogerup Højskole.

The Summer Session jazz convention opens its doors again for a week full of inspiration and immersion with a string of world stars of jazz as instructors. Summer Session takes place from 7 to 13 August at Krogerup Højskole.

Last year, the attendance was greater than ever for the jazz convention, which is one of Denmark’s oldest. In 2022, the convention management and JazzDanmark have once again put us in the harness to create the best framework for the week, with six strong instructors divided into five combos. The faculty this year will be made up of Terri Lyne Carrington, Kris Davis, Joe Lovano, Judi Silvano, Carlos Henriquez and Keyon Harrold.

The Summer Session faculty is composed of the artistic management consisting of Nikolaj Hess, Mikkel Hess and Anders “AC” Christensen.

Registration starts now
You now have the opportunity to apply for a place at the summit here. The deadline for registration is 7 June 2022 and responses to the applications can be expected in week 24.

Faculty Summer Session 2022

Drummer Terri Lyne Carrington has played with names like Stan Getz, James Moody, Pharoah Sanders, Cassandra Wilson, and Al Jarreau, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock since she made her entrance as an 11-year-old at Berklee College Of Music. In addition, Terri Lyne has won countless awards and is today the founder and artistic director of Berklee College of Music’s Jazz and Gender Justice Institute.

Canadian Kris Davis is a trained jazz pianist at the University of Toronto and has a master’s in composition at the City College of New York. Kris Davis was awarded the distinction ‘Rising Star Pianist’ in 2017 and ‘Rising Star Artist’ by Downbeat Magazine in 2018. She has worked with the likes of John Zorn, Terri Lyne Carrington, Craig Taborn, Tyshawn Sorey, and Mary Halvorson.

Judi Silvano & Joe Lovano are no strangers to former Summer Session goers or jazz connoisseurs for that matter. The two also had a team in 2013, and now again in 2022. Judi Silvano is a jazz singer and composer. Her singing style is reminiscent of the Norwegian jazz singer Karin Krog. Saxophonist Joe Lovano came to prominence in Woody Herman’s and later Mel Lewis’ Big Band, and has played in John Scofield’s Quartet and in Paul Motian’s trio, among others.

The concert’s bass player will be the American Carlos Henriquez. In 1998, shortly after Henriquez finished high school, he became part of the Wynton Marsalis Septet and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and in the latter orchestra he is today also a permanent bass player. Henriquez has performed worldwide and recorded with artists such as Chucho Valdes, Tito Puente, Danilo Perez, Bob Dylan, and Marc Anthony.

Trumpeter Keyon Harrold is educated at The New School’s School of Jazz in New York and has had Charles Tolliver as his mentor. Harrold himself mentions Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet as one of his sources of inspiration, but also names like Prince, Dr. Dre and J Dilla are on the list. Harrold has recorded and toured with Robert Glasper, Gregory Porter, D’Angelo, David Sandborn and Jay-Z.
