Today marks the start of the Danish state visit to Poland, with H.M. King Frederik X leading a large Danish business delegation. The visit, at the invitation of Polish President Andrzej Duda, includes a presentation of JazzDanmark’s project JazzCamp for Girls, which has been held in Poland with great success since 2022.

Presentation for the King and the Danish and Polish Cultural Sectors

JazzDanmark’s director Eva Frost and project manager Camilla Juul are participating in the visit to Szczecin, Poland. Eva Frost will present JazzCamp for Girls, followed by a concert featuring this year’s participants from the Szczecin JazzCamp for Girls alongside their instructors, who are Danish and Polish musicians.

We are very proud that our project has gained a solid foothold in large parts of Europe and can contribute to the strong relationship between Denmark and Poland. We look forward to continuing to drive change in gender balance on the music scene and to showcasing some of our positive results during the state visit.

JazzCamp for Girls in Poland

JazzCamp for Girls is a successful initiative in Poland, now held in two cities: Katowice and Szczecin. The project aims to address the gender imbalance in rhythmic music by engaging girls, music schools, and the cultural political climate. It emphasizes values such as courage, community, and experimentation.

After establishing itself successfully in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, and England, JazzCamp for Girls continues to expand globally, with Canada and Turkey joining as host countries in 2023.

Minister of Culture Supports JazzCamp for Girls Worldwide

The project has gained significant international recognition, including a feature in *The New York Times* in 2022 and a video message of support from Danish Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt in 2023. JazzCamp for Girls began in 2014 as a collaboration between JazzDanmark and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Read more about JazzCamp for Girls here.

JazzDanmark Bridges the Polish and Danish Jazz Scenes

In 2022, JazzDanmark launched not only JazzCamp for Girls in Poland but also a major networking initiative called the Danish Polish Jazz Network. This project builds on the strong existing ties between the two jazz scenes.

In September 2023, Danish jazz professionals participated in the annual Danish Polish Jazz Network event in Warsaw, further strengthening collaborations between the two countries. Read more about the Danish Polish Jazz Network here. The initiative is supported by the Augustinus Foundation.
