Jazz Camp for Girls debuts at Jazzahead

Jazz Danmark’s diversity initiative further strengthens its international platform as the project debuts at the world’s largest jazz trade fair in April, giving German children the chance to explore improvisation inspired by the Danish model.

German children to try Danish method

For the first time ever, Jazz Camp for Girls will be an official part of the world’s largest jazz trade fair, Jazzahead, in Bremen. Over four days leading up to the main event, two groups of German children will have the opportunity to try the concept. They will receive improvisation lessons from two professional educators collaborating across Denmark and Germany. During the Jazzahead fair itself, the children will present their new music, and there will also be talks and discussions focusing on improvisation teaching for children, with participation from Jazz Danmark’s secretariat. The project is a collaboration between Jazzahead and Jazz Danmark.

Conference focusing on children and improvisation

In addition to the Jazz Camp for Girls in Bremen, Jazzahead’s conference program under the theme “Improvisation & Kids” will feature, among other things, a panel discussion on international collaborations in music education. Jazz Danmark’s Deputy Director Agnete Seerup will participate alongside musician and composer Johanna Borchert and the Director of Jazz Finland, Maria Silvennoinen, who is also an international partner in the JCFG project.

Strengthening the project’s international platform

Jazz Camp for Girls at Jazzahead 2025 is a new collaboration between Jazz Danmark and Jazzahead. The children’s education in Bremen will be led by the experienced musicians Magdalena Otto and Johanna Borchert. Since 2014, Jazz Camp for Girls has inspired girls across Denmark to play jazz and explore improvisation, and since 2019, the project has expanded far beyond Denmark’s borders, now operating in 10 different countries. At Jazzahead, the project is further strengthening its international platform. Visit the project’s international website here.
