Jazz gatherings for young musical talents and professional musicians are just around the corner.
From July 21st to 30th, 70 musicians under 18 will take over Klejtrup Musikefterskole for the jazz gathering Jazzdalen. After that, it’s the professionals turn, as Jazz Danmark’s Summer Session fills Krogerup Folk High School with jazz musicians from both Denmark and abroad from August 4th to 10th.
It’s not just festivals filling jazz musicians’ calendars this summer. In addition to the recently held JazzCamp for Girls, the summer also offers two other popular jazz events.

A community for young music talents
Jazzdalen is a week-long jazz gathering for young music talents from all over Denmark. With this event, JazzDanmark aims to build new communities and strengthen the future talent pool of musicians. The project ensures an equal balance of boys and girls each year, maintaining a 50/50 gender distribution among the participants.
Jazzdalen is run by JazzDanmark, alongside drummer and project initiator Kristoffer Juel. The young musicians will be divided into fixed groups, where they will play together under the expert guidance of professional Danish musicians. It promises to be an exciting and motivating week full of ensemble playing, improvisation, and, of course, social activities. Learn more about the event here.
Jazzdalen is organized in collaboration with Klejtrup Musikefterskole and will take place from July 21st to 30th. The event is made possible through support from the Danish Arts Council, Spar Nord Fonden, Ole Kirk’s Fond, Toyota-Fonden, Knud Højgaards Fond and A.P. Møller Fonden.
Legendary event for professional musicians
JazzDanmark’s Summer Session is one of the oldest music jazz gatherings in Denmark – and the largest continuing education opportunity for professional jazz musicians in Northern Europe. The event takes place at Krogerup Højskole (Krogerup Folk High School), where professional musicians spend a week together, playing in groups guided by a faculty of some of the world’s best musicians.
A particular focus of the faculty this year is on generational encounters and genre diversity. The Summer Session 2024 faculty includes Mary Halvorson, Kresten Osgood + Cooper-Moore, David Murray, Kanoa Mendenhall, Billy Hart, and Samora Pinderhughes.
Throughout the week, participants will be divided into fixed ensemble groups, but instructors will rotate, giving participants the opportunity to work with all the instructors at the event. Learn more about the Summer Session here.
JazzDanmark’s Summer Session will take place from August 4th to 10th and is made possible through support from KODA Kultur, Augustinus Fonden, Beckett Fonden, Toyota-Fonden og Goethe-Institut Dänemark.
