In 2019, JazzDanmark is launching a new nationwide competition for young jazz musicians. The winner will receive 10,000 DKK and the opportunity to perform at some of Denmark’s jazz festivals as well as at the Euroradio Jazz Competition.

Do you dream of playing live, recording your music, and getting coaching on how to perform – and are you 30 years old or younger? Then Jazzkonkurrencen is for you! The deadline for registration is Friday, January 11, 2019, at 12:00.

A unique opportunity to take your music to the world

Jazzkonkurrencen will consist of two preliminary rounds in Aalborg and Kolding, followed by a final at Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen. The musicians will be selected by a jury made up of professional musicians and industry experts.

Four bands will be chosen to perform in the first round in Aalborg, where one band will be eliminated, while the remaining three bands will proceed to Kolding. In Kolding, the jury will select the two finalists. The two finalists will have the opportunity to record new material, receive coaching on their performance, and potentially be played on P8 Jazz in the lead-up to the final.

The winner of Jazzkonkurrencen will receive 10,000 DKK for a specific project and the opportunity to perform at the Euroradio Jazz Competition in the summer of 2019.

The following criteria apply for registration:

• No member of the band may be older than 30 years as of December 31, 2018.

• The majority of the band’s members must be Danish musicians or musicians residing in Denmark.

• The musical material must primarily be created by the band itself.

• The band may consist of no more than 5 musicians.

• February 1, 2019: Huset in Aalborg

• February 14, 2019: Jazz6000/Godset in Kolding

Final:

• April 13, 2019: Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen
