Play at some of the best venues in the country

Jazzkonkurrencen (The Jazz Competition) offers selected participants gigs at some of the country’s best venues, targeted coaching sessions, exposure on P8 Jazz, and, not least, a strong network of other young, talented jazz musicians. The ultimate winner of the jazz competition will receive DKK 10,000 for a specific project.

Once again, Huset i Hasserisgade (Aalborg), Jazz6000/Godset (Kolding), and Musikhuset Dexter (Odense) will participate, while Alice joins as a new venue partner in Copenhagen. As an exciting new development, the final will take place at Godset in Kolding, hosted by Jazz6000.

Focus on Development

2023 marked a format shift for the jazz competition, requiring all three participants to perform at all four concerts in the series before a winner was announced. The format was further tested in 2024 with great success, and the 2025 edition will follow a similar structure. All participants will perform four concerts, receive feedback, and benefit from individual coaching leading up to the final in May.

Criteria for participation in Jazzkonkurrencen 2025

• Band members must be no older than 30 years.
• The band must primarily consist of Danish musicians or musicians residing in Denmark.
• The musical material must predominantly be original.
• The band may have a maximum of six members.

The application must include

• A band description of at least 800 characters.
• Two tracks, which must be original material.
• A line-up listing names, instruments, and birth years.

Additional information

• JazzDanmark will cover transportation costs for participating bands and provide full catering at all concerts.
• Selected bands commit to completing the coaching sessions between February and June.
• For certain concerts, bands may be required to bring their own backline equipment. This will be coordinated with JazzDanmark’s project manager.
