Join the jazz celebration of the year – DMA Jazz 2021

Danish Music Awards Jazz returns to Bremen Teater for a big award show on monday December 6th 2021.

Danish Music Awards Jazz will take center stage at Bremen Theater on Monday, December 6, 2021, when this year’s jazz prizes are awarded. A lineup of some of the most notable names on the Danish jazz scene will take the stage, hosted by Jeanett Albeck. Tickets are now on sale.

Plenty to celebrate on the jazz scene

Danish music venues have reopened, providing numerous opportunities to experience jazz on both small and large stages. Danish jazz is thriving, with a record-breaking number of new releases this past year. Expect fierce competition for the awards at this year’s jazz celebration, held at Bremen Theater, featuring a live program with prominent names in the jazz world.

Honoring a legend, musical explorations and unique collaborations

Legendary trumpeter and composer Palle Mikkelborg, celebrating his 80th birthday, holds a unique place in Danish jazz. Known for collaborations with giants like NHØP, Marilyn Mazur, and Miles Davis, Mikkelborg will perform with one of Denmark’s most in-demand international jazz guitarists, Jakob Bro.

Percussion duo ERNA debuted in 2019, collaborating with renowned percussionist Lisbeth Diers. Their performances, featuring gongs, bells, drums, and custom electronics, have graced venues like London’s Café OTO. Diers brings decades of experience working with both Danish and international stars, including Don Alias and Trilok Gurtu.

Drummer, composer, and bandleader Snorre Kirk has released multiple albums over the past decade, earning international recognition with performances at top jazz festivals. For DMA Jazz, he will be joined by American tenor saxophonist Stephen Riley, known for his work with Norah Jones, Ray Charles, and Harry Connick Jr.

Nebula, a fluid Danish collective of curated musicians, creates entirely improvised concerts that blend genres and styles. Audiences at Copenhagen Jazz Festival were captivated by their spontaneous performances earlier this year.

Composer and pianist Jacob Anderskov brings his latest project, Spirit of the Hive, to life. Inspired by the swarming behavior of bees, birds, and bats, the project promises a meditative, immersive live experience.

Powerful presence and recognition

Returning as host for the third consecutive year, Jeanett Albeck brings her dynamic energy and deep musical expertise to guide the evening’s celebrations.
