Musvit win Jazzkonkurrencen 2024 at a sold out Montmartre
Vingborg/Valencia, Udsyn and Musvit impressed a sold out Jazzhus Montmartre. In the end Musvit left victoriously with 10.000 kr.
Vingborg/Valencia, Udsyn, and Musvit all gave outstanding performances at a sold-out Jazzhus Montmartre, with Musvit ultimately taking the victory and a prize of 10,000 DKK.
In front of an eager audience at this historic, sold-out venue, the three young bands each showcased their unique interpretation of Danish jazz in the Jazz Competition final.
Three Takes on Modern Nordic Jazz
Vingborg/Valencia’s sensitive and cinematic jazz, Udsyn’s fusion-driven and dynamic soundscape, and Musvit’s more rebellious and playful style of jazz filled Montmartre throughout the evening, captivating an enthusiastic audience. Three memorable performances that highlighted promising directions for the future of jazz.
A Playful Band with the Potential to Become Something Truly Great
The jury, consisting of Sophie Amalie ‘Fimmer’ Engell, William Littauer, and Cecilie Strange, noted that all three bands had impressed them. Cecilie Strange read the jury’s statement about Musvit: “Tonight’s first prize goes to a band that captivated us from the start, constantly taking risks and keeping us surprised. It may not be the most polished band at the moment, but it’s one with the potential to grow into something truly remarkable—a band that is playful and exploratory. Think New York vibes meeting Danish-language Nordic jazz. Tonight’s winner is Musvit!”
The Jazz Competition Has Strengthened Connections Across Participants
Musvit was visibly thrilled but also emphasized the camaraderie and new connections the quartet formed through their participation in the Jazz Competition. Together, the three bands played at Huset in Aalborg, Godset in Kolding, and Musikhuset Dexter in Odense during the competition’s preliminary rounds.
Catch All Three Bands at Montmartre This Fall
All three bands will perform their own headliner shows at Jazzhus Montmartre as part of the venue’s upcoming program in fall 2024.
