Danish American Connections
Dangerous Sounds emerged as an idea in response to the inability to bring musicians physically to another country during the pandemic. In collaboration with one of the most renowned jazz stations in the U.S., WRTI (part of NPR), JazzDanmark released an 8-episode podcast in March 2022 about the Danish-American jazz connection, based on the popular DR podcast Farlige Toner.
Launched at Major Event in the U.S.
The launch of the podcast was far from quiet, celebrated with a major event in Philadelphia, featuring a representative from Denmark’s Consulate General in the U.S., as well as at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee. Both events included talks and live performances by a Danish-American jazz trio consisting of Odean Pope, Kresten Osgood, and Immanuel Wilkens.
Deliverables and Results:
- 8-episode podcast about Danish jazz in English.
- Released by the NPR-affiliated radio station WRTI, as well as globally on all major podcast platforms (Spotify, Apple, etc.).
- Launch event at the prestigious Big Ears Festival in Knoxville on March 26, 2022.
- Launch event at Ars Nova in Philadelphia with a performance by host and musician Kresten Osgood, official participation and speech by Denmark’s Consul General in New York, Berit Basse, on March 31, 2022.

As a leader in jazz programming since 1969, WRTI wanted to provide American music lovers with this incredibly revealing series that showcases a powerful history and relationship between the U.S. and Denmark through jazz. We believe Dangerous Sounds will significantly add to the overall history and appreciation of jazz music in America, as it has already done in Denmark.
