Jazz Danmark’s label network
More and more Danish jazz labels are appearing and the amount of jazz releases continues to be stable and high with almost 150 releases annually. Denmark is a jazz country, and the releases help to keep the entire ecosystem going, as in addition to direct earnings, they also form a foundation for Danish musicians’ live activities all over the world. The Danish jazz releases are of high quality, this can be seen i.a. on the renowned American magazine DownBeat’s list of the best releases from 2020, where as many as 3 out of 33 are Danish.
Jazz Danmark wishes to strengthen Danish jazz labels
Jazz Danmark has several initiatives that support the record companies’ work. DMA Jazz is probably the most comprehensive project, where all Danish releases are listened to by a 19-person academy, and the year’s best jazz releases are celebrated in a magnificent show, which is broadcast live on radio and TV. In addition, the organization works closely with labels by e.g. the major industry event jazzahead!, which is the world’s largest jazz fair and an important showcase for Danish jazz. Furthermore, in a number of the organisation’s international projects, there is a strong collaboration with labels. JazzDanmark would like to play a role in to strengthen the network between the many Danish companies that have visions and ambitions for the spread of jazz.
