Jazzy Kindergartens gives children a lively and sensory musical experience in which they don’t just listen but take an active part. The aim is to strengthen children’s musicality and to give the pedagogues concrete tools for continuing to work with music and improvisation games in everyday life. The project brings professional jazz musicians out to kindergartens to hold interactive mini-concerts where the children take part with their bodies, voices and instruments. Each kindergarten group receives two visits, during which the musicians introduce the basic elements of jazz, such as rhythm, improvisation and interplay, through playful formats. In addition, the kindergartens receive instrument cases, activity cards, posters and postcards for the cloakroom, as well as the option of guidance. All activities support the world of jazz and serve as inspiration for play and further musical development, both in the kindergarten and at home.
Jazzy Kindergartens was developed by the musicians Mija Milovic and Oliver Laumann in collaboration with Kristian Tangvik and Jazz Danmark, and is supported by the Municipality of Copenhagen.
Jazzy Kindergartens is a collaboration with the Municipality of Copenhagen from 2025 to 2027. More than 400 children from twenty six kindergartens are taking part in the project, and each one receives two visits from Jazzy Kindergartens.
