As something new, Jazz Danmark, in collaboration with the Danish jazz festival in London, Sounds of Denmark, is offering a three-day residency to EFG London Jazz Festival on November 15–18. The trip is aimed at bandleaders and managers who have not previously worked in the UK.

Three days of networking, inspiration, and concert experiences

The residency gives three participants the opportunity to visit key venues in London, meet industry professionals, take part in conversations about career opportunities, and experience EFG London Jazz Festival up close. The aim is to provide Danish bandleaders and managers within jazz with concrete tools, new contacts, and inspiration to establish themselves on the British jazz scene.

The trip is led by Danish jazz composer and bassist Jasper Høiby, who has lived in London for 17 years, and Sue Edwards, a manager, festival curator, and seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience on the UK jazz scene.

Who can participate?

  • You are a bandleader or manager for one or more jazz artists.

  • You have not previously worked in the UK with your band(s).

  • You are motivated to bring your musical project or the band(s) you work with to the UK.

  • You are willing to share your experiences with other Danish musicians interested in the UK via an online meeting in January.

  • 3 nights of accommodation in London.

  • Return flights from Denmark (up to £150 per person).

  • Contribution toward concert tickets at the EFG London Jazz Festival.

Sounds of Denmark

Since 2016, Sounds of Denmark has been an important platform for Danish jazz in England. The festival is organized by Jazz Danmark in collaboration with Sue Edwards Management, the Danish Embassy in London, and a number of UK venue partners, and has created media visibility, opened doors to British venues, and strengthened networks between Danish and British musicians and industry professionals.

With this study trip, Jazz Danmark aims to share our strong network and give more musicians the opportunity to establish a solid presence in the UK.
