JazzDanmark collaborates with Tivoli to honor Danish jazz musicians at the Tivoli Jazz Prize 2024. Experience the award ceremony on Monday 16th of September in ‘Glassalen’ in Tivoli, when the award winners will perform together with ‘Tivoli’s Salonorkester’.
The award winners are Christina Dahl, Peter Danstrup (Inspirer of the Year), Øyunn (Breakthrough of the Year), Jakob Bækgaard (Conveyor of the Year), Marko Martinovic (René Daugaard Scholarship) and Moussa Diallo (Children’s Jazz Prize). Congratulations!

About the Award Winners
Inspirer of the Year: Christina Dahl
Christina Dahl is honored with the “Inspirer of the Year” grant for her ability to create music that moves and inspires. With her deep love for music and intuitive saxophone playing, she fills the space with presence and color. As a bandleader, composer, and educator, she is a role model who constantly explores the possibilities of music. Dahl is an artist who, through her work, highlights the power and beauty of music, inspiring both current and future generations.
Inspirer of the Year: Peter Danstrup
Peter Danstrup also receives the “Inspirer of the Year” grant for his impressive career, which spans several decades and genres. As a versatile musician and inspiring leader, Danstrup has managed to connect the musical elements of the past and present. His virtuosity and deep understanding of music have made him a significant figure in the world of jazz, and his work continues to inspire both contemporary and future generations of musicians. The Inspirer of the Year grants are awarded by the Beckett Foundation.
Breakthrough of the Year: Øyunn
The “Breakthrough of the Year” grant recognizes a musician who has distinguished themselves through innovative or extraordinary activity on the live scene or through a high-quality release. In 2024, Øyunn receives the grant for her genre-defying and unique voice as a composer, drummer, and vocalist. The Breakthrough of the Year grant is awarded by the William Demant Foundation.
Communicator of the Year: Jakob Bækgaard
The “Communicator of the Year” grant celebrates an outstanding effort in the dissemination of jazz. Jakob Bækgaard, who has communicated jazz for more than 20 years, receives the grant for his insightful and versatile work both in Denmark and internationally, where he has significantly contributed to spreading and enriching the understanding of jazz music. The Communicator of the Year grant is awarded by the William Demant Foundation.
René Daugaard Grant: Marko Martinovic
The René Daugaard Grant is awarded annually to a talented jazz pianist deserving of special recognition. In 2024, Marko Martinovic receives the grant for his many years of work at Christiania’s Jazz Club and his continued development as a pianist with his trio. Martinovic has also been part of Nulle’s World Orchestra, where his intuitive piano playing has garnered significant attention. The grant is awarded through a donation from the late René Daugaard.
Children’s Jazz Award: Moussa Diallo
The Children’s Jazz Award, formerly part of the Danish Music Awards Jazz, is now part of the Tivoli Jazz Prize and has been transformed into a grant. The award is given to a musician or band that makes a special effort to spread music among future generations. This year’s winner is Moussa Diallo, who has enriched Danish music for decades with his ability to inspire and make music accessible—especially for children. The Children’s Jazz Award grant is provided by the Gangsted Foundation.

The Tivoli Jazz Prize was developed by Tivoli and JazzDanmark and honors outstanding achievements in jazz music with a series of grants made possible through generous contributions from the William Demant Foundation, the Gangsted Foundation, the Beckett Foundation, and the late René Daugaard.
