Sold-out final brings the latest jazz to Montmartre

On Wednesday, May 27, Jazzhus Montmartre will host three of the country’s most promising new jazz bands.

The audience can look forward to concerts by ELJO, Purpur, and Venya. By the end of the evening, one of the three bands will walk away as the winner. All three are in top form following an impressive series of concerts at three of the country’s leading venues, combined with ongoing coaching and professional mentoring. As usual, the Jazzkonkurrencen final sold out well in advance.

“Blown away by the sound of tomorrow”

When the Jazzkonkurrencen final was last held at Montmartre, Politiken culture journalist David Dyrholm attended the event and described the evening as follows:

“Honestly, I can think of very few experiences cooler than standing in a packed, boiling-hot venue and being blown away by the sound of tomorrow. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to experience exactly that at Montmartre during this year’s Jazzkonkurrencen final […] which continues to be a highly accurate barometer of what is emerging and evolving among Denmark’s youngest musicians.”

New talents in good company

Previous participants in Jazzkonkurrencen include names such as Veronika Rud, Svaneborg Kardyb, Little North, Baryl, and Kosmos Trio. Since their victory in 2019, Svaneborg Kardyb have gained widespread international recognition and established themselves as one of the defining names in Danish jazz. Viktoria Søndergaard from the band Baryl has developed into one of the most sought-after musicians on the scene today, partly through her close collaboration with Marilyn Mazur. Both Veronika Rud and Little North have achieved major national and international milestones with their original music projects. In other words, the participants of Jazzkonkurrencen are already in very good company.

Winner receives opportunity to record an EP

The winner of this year’s competition will be selected at the final concert of the series. For the second consecutive year, the winner will receive the opportunity to record an EP, including mixing, at The Hideout Studio. In addition, the winner will receive DKK 10,000 to support a self-chosen project.
