Summer Session faculty is ready – apply now!

Summer Session 2026 can now unveil this year’s faculty and is simultaneously opening registration for this summer’s major jazz course.

Registration is now open for this year’s Summer Session, which once again offers an intensive week of immersion, inspiration, and advanced training in jazz at the highest international level. The workshop brings together a strong faculty consisting of five outstanding musicians. As something entirely new, a composition workshop will also be presented alongside the workshop’s well-known elements.

The workshop is aimed at professional jazz musicians from Denmark and abroad. You can apply for a place until Sunday, March 23. Once again this year, Krogerup Højskole will provide the setting for the workshop, which will take place from August 2 to 8, 2026.

This year’s Summer Session faculty consists of Milena Casado, Tarus Mateen, Eric McPherson, Cheick Tidiane Seck, and Juliana Venter. The artistic team of Summer Session are Cornelia Nilsson and Jakob Dinesen.

Cheick Tidiane Seck

The Malian composer, arranger, and keyboardist Cheick Tidiane Seck is known for his many collaborations with some of the greatest African musicians. Seck’s impressive CV includes collaborations with Fela Kuti, Salif Keita, Youssou N’Dour, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Damon Albarn, and spans genres from afrobeat and jazz to pop.

Juliana Venter

Juliana Venter is a Norwegian/South African vocalist working with free improvisation as well as composition in the field between jazz, folk, noise, and much more. In addition to her solo work, she is a permanent member of Paal Nilssen Love: Circus. With a background as a classically trained singer and an artistic practice spanning continents and genres, Venter is the very definition of a cross-disciplinary artist.

Milena Casado

Trumpeter and composer Milena Casado is one of the most influential new voices on the American jazz scene. Casado has accompanied stars such as Terri Lyne Carrington and Aaron Parks, and has performed as a bandleader at major festivals including North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, and NYC Winter Jazzfest.

Eric McPherson

New Yorker Eric McPherson began his career as the regular drummer for Jackie McLean, serving for 15 years until McLean’s death in 2006 — a position he took over after, among others, Jack DeJohnette. Since then, McPherson has been nominated three times for an American Grammy, performed with major names such as Kurt Rosenwinkel and Pharoah Sanders, and is also an experienced educator and facilitator of workshops and masterclasses.

Tarus Mateen

American musician Tarus Mateen is in demand on both electric and double bass. He has played in Betty Carter’s band, composed the soundtrack for the Spike Lee film Malcolm X, and performed with artists such as Marcy Cary, Nasheet Waits, as well as hip-hop icons including Outkast, De La Soul, Fugees, and The Roots. Over the course of his career, Mateen has been nominated for five American Grammys.

Workshop for composers in collaboration with AUTOR

This year, AUTOR and Jazz Danmark have joined forces to present a composers’ workshop during Summer Session. The workshop will place special focus on the meeting between composition, notation, and the performing ensemble.

The program will be integrated with Summer Session’s other workshops, and participants in the composition workshop will therefore also take part in the workshop’s daily schedule.

The workshop instructor and practical information regarding registration will be announced shortly, and registration will take place via AUTORs website.
