Jazz Danmark’s music summit Summer Session has for more than 40 years gathered professional musicians for an intense week filled with jam sessions, masterclasses and ensembles led by international star musicians.

Summer Session has for many years taken place at Vallekilde Højskole, but in 2017 Jazz Danmark’s contract with the college ended, and the convention will therefore change its surroundings in 2018. At the same time, as an exception in 2018, the meeting will be moved forward one week. From 2019, the event will again start on the first weekend in August, as usual.

The same summit but in new surroundings

Summer Session is music and community at the very highest level, and it will continue to be so, just as the basic idea that the convention should provide opportunities to strengthen networks and create new collaborative relationships for the participants will remain. But as something new, the Summer Session in 2018 will take place at Krogerup Højskole in Humlebæk.

With the new location also comes a new date for the convention and in 2018 the Summer Session will take place a week earlier than usual, namely on 29 July – 4 August.

Nikolaj Hess, who has been the artistic director of Summer Session since 2012, is moving to Krogerup Højskole and says about the event:

“Summer Session is a completely unique convention with a superb mix of the best of the high school tradition and musical creative immersion. We will do what we can to bring the special spirit from Vallekilde over to Krogerup, so that the unique spirit of the convention can be maintained”

Summer Session 2018

In 2018, the event will consist of five ensemble teams, all of whom will be assigned an international star musician as teacher.

As usual, the various ensemble teams will meet during the event, and there will be daily rotations, which will enable the participants to play with even more musicians that they don’t normally play with and expand their network to an even greater extent.
