A new jazz celebration in iconic surroundings

Tivoli and JazzDanmark are collaborating to unite several of the country’s jazz grants into one grand awards event. Some of Denmark’s most talented jazz musicians will be honored and perform with the Tivoli Ensemble on August 30th in the Glass Hall, with Naya Buric as the host. The evening will conclude with a jazz jam in Tivoli Gardens.

Denmark’s jazz scene is home to immense talent of international stature. Join us for a festive evening in the Glass Hall, where some of Denmark’s finest musicians will be celebrated, perform, and come together for a jam session afterwards. JazzDanmark and Tivoli have partnered to relaunch the Tivoli Jazz Prize, merging several of the country’s jazz grants into a single grand celebration, held in one of Tivoli’s most beautiful venues.

Experienced jazz host

We are pleased to announce that the awards ceremony will be hosted by the knowledgeable and experienced jazz journalist and P8 Jazz presenter, Naya Buric. In addition to producing and hosting radio programs and podcasts, Naya Buric has also hosted P8’s Jazz Alive events and has been a speaker at events organized by the Danish Film Institute and JazzDanmark.

Jazz has played a significant role in Tivoli for nearly 100 years, so it is with a long and proud tradition in mind that we now present the Tivoli Jazz Prize in collaboration with JazzDanmark, celebrating and rewarding Denmark’s most talented jazz musicians. In this way, Tivoli hopes to contribute to strengthening and promoting the Danish jazz scene.

Five grants and concerts featuring winners

Since 2020, the Tivoli Jazz Prize has focused on a single grant dedicated to a young musician with exceptional talent. In 2023, however, the jazz prize will expand to include four grants and an honorary award: the two William Demant Grants for Musician of the Year and Band of the Year (previously awarded at the Danish Music Awards Jazz), the Rene Daugaard Grant (awarded to a jazz pianist), the Ben Webster Honorary Award, and the Bent Jædig Grant.

In addition to the award ceremony, the evening will feature a concert with the Tivoli Ensemble, where the grant winners will perform as guest soloists. After the event, there will be an open jam session in the Jubilee Garden.

For the genre organization JazzDanmark, the awards ceremony is an important opportunity to highlight the high caliber of Danish jazz musicians:

Danish jazz is renowned for its high level, both in Denmark and abroad. We want to celebrate this by honoring the incredibly talented jazz performers we have here at home on the last Wednesday Jazz Day of the year in Tivoli.
